Our story
Pratt Abbott began in 1942 as a as a solitary dry cleaning store in Portland, Maine. We expanded to include uniform rental in the 1960s. In 1991, father-and-son duo Jim and David Machesney acquired the business. Although Jim has passed on, David still runs the business today with his daughter, Emily.
David developed Pratt Abbott into the largest dry cleaner in Maine, and further diversified the uniform side to include table linen and bed linen rentals, medical cleaning, and mat and towel services. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020, we expanded further to high-quality PPE and disinfectants.
In 2022, Pratt Abbott Uniform & Linen was acquired by the largest national medical linen provider, ImageFIRST Healthcare Laundry Specialists. This new partnership led to Pratt Abbott being renamed to Pratt Abbott Uniform & Linen, An ImageFIRST Company. This acquisition does not include Pratt Abbott Retail’s dry-cleaning and home delivery services.
